Young Digger
New edition coming
In June this year Penguin/Viking will publish a new edition of Young Digger ... with a new cover, new Introduction and an extra four pages of photographs. Out of print since last year, this inspiring story of hope and renewal drawn from the ashes of war will now be available for a new and wider readership.
The new cover features a magical photograph of 'Young Digger' with Ted Tovell, one of two brothers who smuggled the little French war orphan and mascot of 4th Squadron of the Australian Flying Corps back to Australia in 1919. It says everything about the devotion that bound the boy to the airmen and they to him ... and is surely one of the most arresting covers to be found among recent military history books.

The photograph was found by David Daws of Melbourne, in an album owned by his late father Leslie, who served with 4th Squadron in 1918-19. We are most grateful for David's kind permission to use it.
