Digger and Ted Tovell
A wonderfully evocative photo of the war orphan boy with Ted Tovell, Tim's younger brother, taken at Hurdcott camp near the Salisbury Plain in March-April 1919. The bond between the two is evident – as it was with the men of 4th Squadron generally. Digger's uniform is the one made in Cologne, including his forage cap made from a slouch hat, new boots and puttees (linen strips) to protect his legs. Most servicemen hated them.
