Lone Pine

This shot looking down to the sea from the Lone Pine battlefield on the second ridge shows how far the Anzacs had come. But the Turkish soldiers still held the third ridge above them, showing how far they had to go. The Anzacs never broke out of the cordon, and they evacuated in December 1915.
